Castle Building Competition

Today in Room 10 we had a spare few minutes so we decided to have a castle building competition before drawing some pictures of castles for the setting of our fairy tales we are writing!

We had to work together and then voted on the best castle! The boys won because they used a super hard material but did a great job!

 A close second!
We loved the size of this one!

These guys were the winners!

Enterprise Showcase

Come and check out our Enterprise Showcase. Up until Thursday afternoon in the Auditorium

Trip, trap, trip, trap... Bridge construction!

Today in room 10 we put on our thinking hats and thought about how to construct a solid bridge! We had to plan using the materials. We saw lots of shapes in our bridges and learnt that triangles are very strong shapes. That is why they are on lots of bridge!

Our big book for this week "Three Billy Goats Gruff" had lots of pictures and information about bridges. We looked at lots of different types and spotted the bits we thought would make the best bridge.

Then, we did some serious planning, making sure that we indicated where we would use the gumdrops, toothpicks, blutac and popsicle sticks.

Next we set to work constructing our bridges.

"I used triangles because they are strong" BH

"We used blutac to make the planks stick together" BM

"We tried to make ours very big but it fell apart" JdS

Lastly, Miss Ladley did the "trip, trap" test to make sure that they were solid and didn't fall apart. Some did because they weren't supported enough. We learnt that the ones that had more triangles and more blutac and gummies stuck better. We looked at each bridge and talked about which parts we didn't need.
"We didn't need the pointy bits because they didn't hold it up" BM

Can you guess whether these bridges worked or not?

"Our bridge was hard to get across because it had too much stuff in the middle" CC

What good fun!!!
